Arsenal return to Highbury* to face Fleetwood Town in the Carabao Cup 4th Round. The Cods (yep, that’s their nickname) sit 18th in the 24-club League Two table. They got off to a hot start, going unbeaten in their first six league matches, but have lost five of seven since. The Gunners regained a share of the Premier League lead over the weekend. The two clubs have never faced each other.
*Highbury is Fleetwood’s stadium, named after Highbury Avenue in Lancashire and has no relation to Arsenal’s former
ground. But it’s still fun.
Fleetwood Town and their supporters will be up for the match. They’ll all want to show their absolute best with the title holders in town.
Mikel Arteta has the somewhat tricky task of putting out a strong enough side that today’s match is comfortable while not overtaxing players ahead of a trip to Anfield at the weekend and a Champions League away day after that. Hopefully he leans on youth in today’s contest, although you’d expect to see a decent number of senior players get a run out simply because they need the minutes. Martin Zubimendi, Cristhian Mosquera, and Piero Hincapie come to mind. You’d expect Marli Salmon and Max Dowman to start alongside them.
Riccardo Calafiori picked up a slight knock at the weekend, so I doubt he’ll be in the matchday squad. Christos Tzolis is close to returning from his hamstring injury — he might be available this weekend to face Liverpool. William Saliba is working towards a November return to action. Bukayo Saka will be out until at least late December with the thigh injury he suffered against Bayern Munich.
Lineups will be posted when available.
