Bayern Munich’s dominance in the Bundesliga doesn’t just end with titles. The Bavarian side also dominates Germany financially. Bayern make up the top five of the Bundesliga’s most expensive transfers of all time: Michael Olise (€53M), Matthijs De Ligt (€77M), Luis Díaz (€70m), Lucas Hernández (€80M) and Harry Kane (€95M).
Even though Bayern have since lost the likes of De Ligt and Hernández, it’s no surprise that ‘Die Rekordmeister’ also dominate Tranfermarkt’s Bundesliga most valuable XI.
Bayern feature a staggering nine players in the XI. At first glance, it’s a simple indicator of how dominant their side is in terms of quality and doesn’t help the never ending farmers league jeers. However, digging deeper reveals how the Bundesliga was brutally gutted by the Premier League over the summer transfer window, a topic non-Bundesliga fans will conveniently brush over. Florian Wirtz, Jeremy Frimpong and Hugo Ekitike certainly would have featured considering their estimated market value of €110M, €38M and €95M. Former RB Leipzig players, Benjamin Šeško (€76,5) and Xavi Simons (€60M), also could have snuck their way into the XI along with Newcastle’s Nick Woltemade (€75M).
Bayern, while far from a victim, is often scapegoated by the simple minded for cannibalizing the Bundesliga by stealing the league’s brightest talents. However, the Premier League’s raid of the Bundesliga’s quality should be enough to make anyone raise a questioning eyebrow.
A strong league doesn’t hinder Bayern, it benefits them. The Bundesliga is not under attack by Bayern, it’s under attack by the Premier League.
