Back at it again with another cover of a double-digit number. This time on the road for the Notre Dame Fighting Irish against the Pitt Panthers. A LOT of outside noise this week. Online Pitt fans tweeting
at will about whatever they wanted. The place that ND has in the CFP discussion. Any many other things. The noise was drowned out, and the Irish very much took care of a business in not the cleanest game, but a very effective one.
There were some earlier struggles before the Irish put this one away, so definitely some angst was showing online during the game. Again, not much, but there were some overreactions to hash out here. Let’s do it.
Overreactions Online: ND @ Pitt
The qualifier for this one here is that the FG miss this was referring to was BAD. Kicking has been such a struggle, and it does make me nervous for if it is needed in clutch situations. That hasn’t necessarily happened yet, and there is some time to get it right. But it can’t be too late. Will it cost us the season? It hasn’t happened yet, so eyes forward. BUT, you need all facets of the game to be humming in the CFP, so it is worrisome.
“Complete” shambles is a bit of a stretch here. The play calling inside the 5 yard line this season has been infuriating. I don’t really know if that is Denbrock messing around or there is no confidence in the short yardage offense, especially in the red zone. There is some distress as you clearly have the best running back in college football at your disposal. Or maybe Denbrock is overthinking it and the defense they are seeing. It needs to get cleaned up, but not it total shambles here.
Early season overreaction here, and it’s a great follow up by this X user. The defense has been OUTSTANDING since the Arkansas game. Disruptive. Violent. Turnovers galore. We all hated the Chris Ash defense, but now they are humming. It’s a good thing to have this collective apology needed.
