Seth Rollins is missing WWE’s Royal Rumble event this Saturday (Jan. 31) in Saudi Arabia due to injury, but he’s staying busy in the states doing media to promote the PLE.
That includes this segment today on ESPN’s First Take, where Seth names the five greatest Royal Rumble winners in history. Let’s see which stars made the cut for Rollins’ completely unbiased list.
- Becky Lynch in 2019
- Shawn Michaels in 1995
- Ric Flair in 1992
- John Cena in 2008
- Rey Mysterio in 2006
The rest of the talking heads on ESPN didn’t argue at all with Seth for putting his wife Becky at the top of the list, for obvious reasons.
At least Seth didn’t include himself on the list for also winning a Royal Rumble match in 2019.
Flair’s Rumble match is considered by many fans to be the best from start to finish, whereas HBK’s very famous finish with the British Bulldog in 1995 came after a garbage Rumble match. Seriously, look at the field of 30 stars in the Royal Rumble match that year, which included 60 second entries and names like Timothy Well, Steve Dunn, Mantaur, and Duke “The Dumpster” Droese.
2008 is the year that Cena had one of the most shocking returns in Royal Rumble history at Madison Square Garden, and 2006 is the year that Rey Mysterio set a Royal Rumble record for survival time after dedicating his win to the memory of Eddie Guerrero.
Stephen A. Smith had a problem with the very tiny Mysterio making Seth’s list instead of multi-time Rumble winners like “Stone Cold” Steve Austin, Hulk Hogan, and Cody Rhodes. Seth restrained himself from dumping on The Hulkster too much and instead dismissed his Rumble wins as anti-climactic.
Do you agree with Seth Rollins’ list of the five greatest Royal Rumble winners of all-time? If not, which entries would you replace? Do you think we’re getting an all-time great winner this weekend in Saudi Arabia?
