Angel City FC’s, defender Alanna Kennedy and midfielder Katie Zelem are headed to the WSL team, London City Lionesses, for an undisclosed transfer fee.
Although the Matilda only donned the ACFC team jersey for 16 matches (notching one goal and one assist) after signing for the 2025 season, this wasn’t her first stint in the NWSL. Previously, she played for the Western New York Flash and the Orlando Pride. However, she also played in WSL including stops at Manchester United and Tottenham Hotspur, before
returning to the NWSL.
“I’m really excited to be part of such an amazing club with great impressions. I can’t wait to meet everyone and get the season started. I’m excited to be part of such a historic season for the club. The ambitions of the club and what they want to do – win trophies and titles – as a player, that’s what you want to do. It’s something that is going to take time to build, I’m excited to be a part of the early stages of this project and hopefully, we can have a lot of success this season,” said the 30-year-old about her signing with the English club.
In the case of Zelem, she arrived in the NWSL in the middle of the 2024 season and has featured in 25 matches for Angel City. She hasn’t scored this season, but she did it twice last year and registered one assist.
“I’m really excited to sign for London City and can’t wait to get going. I think being the first independent team in the WSL is an amazing achievement. It feels like, since I joined the league, the growth in women’s football has been exceptional. I really can’t wait to be a part of this club. Hopefully I can bring a lot of experience, knowledge and some good football to the team,” declared the English player.
