Hansi Flick is facing quite the selection headache ahead of Barcelona’s Champions League clash with PSG on Tuesday as Jules Kounde and Eric Garcia have been ruled along with Andreas Christensen, leaving the coach with very few defenders available.
Gerard Martín is also a doubt and the coach did not want to confirm whether the full-back could start on Tuesday or not, but he did speak about the other options at center-back currently available in the squad.
“We have options. Rodri and Frenkie can play
[center-back]. Àlex Campos is with us; he’s trained with us for the first time. I’m positive. It’s not the best time for us, but we have to accept it. Jules will be back soon; maybe he’ll be an option for the weekend. We have to wait and see.”
It sounds like Martín will be good to go as Pau Cubarsí’s partner, but Flick is more than ready to try something else if Maldini isn’t quite fit enough.
Flick’s ability to remain calm when facing these kinds of problems is one of his best qualities as coach, and he will have full trust in whatever back four combination he ends up choosing on Tuesday.
