Sacha Boey has very clearly been put on the sale list at Bayern Munich, given his status as third choice right back and how little game time he will get next season. The desire to offload the former Galatasaray player already took form in February 2026, when the Frenchman earned a six-month loan move back to his former club along with an option to buy.
Unfortunately, the Süper Lig winners decided against using the option to buy or even negotiate a lesser fee and a report from German news site Bild,
as captured by @iMiaSanMia, sheds light as to why that could be:
Galatasaray were open to signing Sacha Boey permanently for €10-15m. But due to the rules in Turkey, they only have one spot left for a foreign player, and they need it for another position – that’s why they decided against buying Boey.
The foreign player rule for the Süper Lig limits each team to a maximum of 12+2 foreign players. The rules allow for 12 foreign players born before January 1, 2004, to be registered at each club, which can rise up to 14 foreign players if at least two of said foreign players were born after January 1, 2004. Hence the 12+2. Furthermore, the league has been heavily considering adjusting the ruling to accommodate just 10+4 foreign players and only recently confirmed that the 2026/27 season will continue with the 12+2. This will have increased Galatasaray’s uncertainty over keeping foreign players such as Boey heading into this summer offseason.
The 25-year-old Boey does not qualify as a young foreign player and, according to Bild, would have had to fill the last foreign player slot. Galatasaray opted against doing this. Therefore, Boey has returned to Munich and will look for other clubs to join.
