Dallas Cowboys fans have to hit pause on seeing Joey Porter Jr. make his home debut. Just before kickoff on Thursday night, NFL Network and ESPN reporter Jane Slater says the Cowboys star cornerback is officially out for tonight’s game against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
Mike Garafolo added context, saying Porter has been “vomiting,” has a “bad virus,”
and is in no condition to play. It’s an unfortunate situation, not only given the excitement of seeing the newly added corner play more snaps, but also because it changes how the Cowboys want to play defense tonight.
DaRon Bland will play outside, and Caleb Downs should get more snaps at safety instead of nickel, which means more responsibilities for Reddy Steward, Ameer Speed, and Caelen Carson. We will have to wait and see the official word on where things stand with Shavon Revel, who was limited last week against the Houston Texans.
The Tampa Bay Buccaneers are 0-4, but Porter Jr’s absence certainly adds another layer to what should have been a get-right game for the Cowboys defense.
