Former UFC two-division champion, Alex Pereira, wants longtime referee, Herb Dean, tossed from UFC.
That’s a decision that can only be made by the athletic commissions where Dean is licensed and “Poatan” would need to establish a level of incompetence that proves Dean is unfit for duty. I’m not sure a couple of missed fouls in the Brazilian’s UFC White House loss to Ciryl Gane is the smoking gun Pereira wants it to be.
That said, Dean can’t seem to escape controversy these last few weeks.
“I don’t know
… I don’t know the answer to that question,” said UFC CEO, Dana White, when asked if Dean “lost a step” over the years. “That’s not up to me, that’s up to the commission. I heard about [Pereira’s petition]. There is no MMA in my algorithm. Unless [someone] tells me, I don’t know.”
Here’s the clip from Sunday’s Zuffa Boxing presser:
White avoided the Dean topic but has been openly critical of the longtime referee in recent years, previously slamming the “horrible job” done to former champions Jon Jones and Daniel Cormier in this important UFC title fight.
At least he’s not “the worst referee in the history of f—king fights.”
