The Steelers cut safety Darrick Forest from the team’s practice squad, Steelers Now’s Alan Saunders reported Tuesday.
The move gives the Steelers the space make room for the reported signing of free agent
cornerback Asante Samuel Jr.
Forest signed with the Steelers practice squad on Oct. 28 following DeShon Elliott’s injury against the Green Bay Packers. However, he never appeared in a game for Pittsburgh.
Forest was a former fifth-round draft pick by the Washington Commanders with 40 career games with 17 starts.
Neither the Forest release nor the Samuel signing have been officially announced by the Steelers yet. Samuel, a former second-round pick, has 47 career starts in 50 career games in the NFL. He’s coming off an April spinal fusion surgery.
