Roma has thrown us a few curveballs this summer. While the club has thus far balked at spending record-breaking sums on a new left-winger, they barely batted an eye before dropping €35 million on Santiago Castro, who will ostensibly serve as backup striker behind Donyell Malen (though there are permutations where they can play together).
Similarly, while many presumed the club would target a new left wing-back this summer, allow Wesley to return to the right flank, today’s reports suggest the opposite:
According to multiple Italian sources, including the Corriere dello Sport and Fabrizio Romano, Roma and Atletico Madrid are finalizing a deal for Nahuel Molina, a 28-year-old Argentinian right-back. While Roma’s initial bid was short on funds, wages, and transfer formula, additional reporting from Nicolo Schira suggests that the Giallorossi have submitted an €18 million bid and are offering Molina a €2.75 million salary (plus bonuses) through 2030.
He may not have been their first choice, but with their previous target, Feyenoord right-back Givairo Read, approaching the €30 million neighborhood, Molina is a more experienced and affordable option for Tony D’Amico.
