Barcelona seem poised to secure the departure of goalkeeper Iñaki Peña on a season-long loan to newly-promoted La Liga side Elche, according to a new report from Jijantes.
The report also says Peña, whose current deal runs out next summer, will
renew his contract until 2029, an operation that will lower his annual wage which helps clear salary cap space as Barça pursue the registrations of Gerard Martín, Wojciech Szczesny and Roony Bardghji before the end of the transfer window.
Elche are coached by Eder Sarabia, who had a brief stint at Barça as Quique Setién’s assistant and coached Peña during that time, and that personal connection is probably the reason why Elche came out of nowhere to suddenly be in pole position to secure Iñaki’s signing.
Peña had been strongly linked with a move to Cesc Fàbregas’ Como in recent weeks, but it appears as though he will remain in La Liga and be the number one goalkeeper for Elche.
