What is the story about?
President
Tony Khan was on a call with the media today ahead of this weekend’s AEW Dynasty pay-per-view.
Here is a quick recap of some of the notable answers Khan gave during the call.
- Khan confirmed that Chris Jericho’s new AEW contract is a multi-year deal. Jericho was a free agent and had multiple options to choose from, but he wanted to stay with AEW.
- Regarding TNA’s decision to pull wrestlers like Nic Nemeth and Leon Slater out of scheduled indie matches against AEW stars, Khan said he was “surprised” that “the other company” changed its mind after initially agreeing to it. Khan gave his approval for those matches to take place, and said he loves collaborating with other pro wrestling promotions.
- Speaking of which, he said AEW will be working with Stardom on summer events, including the Forbidden Door pay-per-view.
- Khan thinks it’s “realistic” that Kyle Fletcher can return to AEW in time for All In London in late August, after vacating the TNT championship this week due to injury.
- Khan also mentioned that the Spring BreakThru episodes of Dynamite and Collision will return next week.
- As far as his nice 6.9 billion dollar bid to purchase WWE in 2023 is concerned, Khan said he was “flying blind” compared to the other three bidders, as he wasn’t given any “data room” access. That’s related to why the other bidders “made it further in the process” than he did. Khan largely based his bid on publicly known market information about WWE’s stock price.
There you have it, Cagesiders, minus all the extra words for ‘That’s a great question’ and ‘Thank you for asking.’ What did Khan say that catches your attention the most? Let me know in the comments below.
