Kevin Nash took a shot at CM Punk following Punk’s antics at a recent WWE live event.
After Punk wrestled Bronson Reed while wearing two T-shirts, Nash addressed the moment on his Kliq This podcast, quipping,
“Wouldn’t it be easier to just go to the gym?”
At last Tuesday’s house show in Fort Myers, Florida, Punk entered his world title defense against Reed wearing two T-shirts. He playfully removed one to reveal another underneath, then ditched the second during his comeback to show his full upper body.
The bit appeared to be a tongue-in-cheek response to Nash’s critique just days earlier, after Punk wrestled on Raw wearing a T-shirt. On a previous episode of his podcast, Nash said, “If you’re the Heavyweight Champion of the WWE and you wrestle in a T-shirt — ouch.”
After hearing about Punk’s house show performance, Nash revisited their history, recalling a 2011 promo in which Punk took verbal shots at him ahead of a planned match that never materialized.
“I’m 50-something years old when I come back, and he gives me the whole bull**** about ‘LOL, thought you were dead’ and all that,” said Nash.
“I’m not allowed to comment back because I’ve been told by Vince (McMahon) that I’m not allowed to cut a promo. And here he is. How old is (Punk) now — 48? He’s already fallen victim to the indie T-shirt.”
Despite the physical critique, Nash was quick to praise Punk’s recent promo opposite Bron Breakker ahead of their World Heavyweight Championship match tonight on Raw. Punk’s declaration that he wasn’t ready to give up the title struck a chord with the two-time WWE Hall of Famer.
“It didn’t feel contrived,” said Nash. “It felt sincere. He’s wonderful on the mic. He’s fantastic.”
