Nicolas Jackson has done an okay-ish job of deputizing for Harry Kane at Bayern Munich. Normally played as a striker, the Senegalese attacker is sometimes played as a second striker behind Kane. While
he’s enjoying life being part of a record-breaking side, his parent club Chelsea isn’t so lucky.
“In midfield, they’ve got one of the best in Moises Caicedo but up front, I think the decision to let Nicolas Jackson leave is coming back to bite Chelsea a bit,” former Arsenal and Aston Villa striker Paul Merson told Sky Sports (via Mirror). “Marc Guiu wasn’t up to the task against Sunderland [Chelsea lost 2-1 to Sunderland last time out].
“To only touch the ball nine or 10 times when you are playing for a dominant team, that’s not good enough. Joao Pedro is also not training much as he manages an injury. It leaves Chelsea short, and I think it shows that squad is not as great as everyone makes out.”
Chelsea initially planned without Jackson for this season, but an injury to Liam Delap led to the decision to cancel the loan despite Jackson and his entourage being in Germany at the time of that decision. After much haggling and much pushback, they let him go to Germany and instead recalled former FC Barcelona striker Marc Guiu.
