Chelsea team news: Before the international break the Blues finally met expectations in the UEFA Women’s Champions League, handily defeating Paris FC 4-0 at the Bridge in extremely dominant fashion. However given how the WSL gets tougher each year, performances like these are no longer a portent of what’s to come when we return to domestic action.
There are some good news since we last got on the pitch, as everyone who went on to defend their respective national teams returned to Cobham without injuries. And we also got defender Naomi Girma back in the fold. with her recovery picking up pace during these two weeks of international action.
London City team news: London City arrive in the WSL with a rebuilt, high-profile squad under French head coach Jocelyn Prêcheur. The summer window brought in top-level experience across the pitch — notably former Chelsea target, Grace Geyoro, as well as league veterans Katie Zelem and Alanna Kennedy — and those additions have featured prominently through the opening weeks, giving LCL a far stronger spine than most newly promoted sides. The result has been a competitive start and a team that’s learning fast at this level.
There are no officially reported injury absences for the visitors ahead of this game; Prêcheur is expected to have close to a full complement available and to lean on that new core for a derby test at Stamford Bridge
Previously: Five goals in 90 minutes of Women’s FA Cup football.
