The Yankees started their week in Chicago off on a strong note, winning the first two games, and it looked like they were well on their way to a series win and potentially a sweep when they were up 4-0 with Cam Schlittler cruising on the mound on Wednesday. Unfortunately, things fell apart and quickly turned into the first of two back-to-back extra inning losses, continuing to pile onto a poor record for New York if the game goes past the guaranteed nine. The second of those losses was particularly
painful to follow up with, as the offense turned lifeless failing to score until the Manfred Runner was in the game and now the bullpen has been stretched thin without any rest in immediate sight. Still, with a split in hand they’ll look for better luck with the other residents of Chicago, heading north to face off with the Cubs next.
Matt starts us off for the day with a look at the pitching matchups we can expect the Cubs to roll out and the Yankees’ answers to them, and then Peter covers the Rivalry Roundup where the Rays and Red Sox both unfortunately gained ground. Matt returns to talk about the wild career of Hank Bauer on his birthday and John considers Mickey Moniak as a capable fill-in for the outfield should the Yankees want to inquire on his services.
