Reece James has pun to paper on a new long-term contract, with the club announcing a six-year extension this morning for the 26-year-old club captain. That’s certainly welcome and wonderful news, especially as he only had two years left on his previous deal, and that would’ve meant that he was entering prime Pure Profit territory. The length of the extension is also noteworthy given his age — BlueCo’s player recruitment policy filters out anyone under 27.
In a rare occurrence, here’s something we
can all agree with from the sporting directors.
“On behalf of ownership and everyone connected to Chelsea, it is a proud moment for all of us to have Reece extend his contract. He is the leader of this team, both on and off the pitch. Reece knows what it means to wear this badge and, having committed his long-term future to Chelsea, we’re looking forward to continuing the journey and working towards further success together.”

So say we all.
“2006, a kid arrived at Chelsea with a dream in his heart, boots too big for his feet, but belief from the start. Fast forward to 2026, still wearing the same blue shirt with the same fire inside. This club raised me, shaped me, and gave me a place to call home. Through every game, every battle, every lesson I’ve grown. Now the journey rolls on, the dream still true. Extended till 2032 … and still bleeding BLUE!”
