What is the story about?
The Panthers selected Georgia tackle Monroe Freeling at No. 19, shoring up their o-line to protect Bryce Young. Here’s what you need to know.
Stats & Accolades
- 2023: (8 games played)
- 2024: (13 games played, 4 starts)
- 2025: (14 games played, 13 starts), Second-Team All-SEC
What the Panthers are getting:
Freeling is a picturesque NFL tackle prospect with a rare combination of size, length, and athleticism. Georgia was able to utilize his skills as a blocker out in space on screens. Freeling looks the part of a bonafide first-round pick at the position but his lack of starting experience in college has scouts questioning
his readiness to step in and start right away. There’s a lot to love about his upside, but he’ll have to land with the right coaching staff to warrant that Day 1 pick.
Strengths
- Elite size and length that does not grow on trees
- Athleticism allows him to be a weapon as a blocker in space
- Comfortable passing stunts and staying on top of games by the defense
Weakness
- Hand placement is erratic on initial punch in pass protection
- Needs to trust his fundamentals when meeting pass rush as the top of their rush
- Inconsistent landmarks in the run game
