There have been conflicting reports that Bayern Munich is considering selling a 5% stake of FC Bayern AG’s shares to Viessmann Generations Group, a Munich-based private equity and investment company. Initially, it was understood that the acquisition was going to take place under the umbrella of Viessmann Climate Solutions, but — if true — would actually be going through Max Viessmann via the Viessmann Generations Group.
It is anticipated that the purchasing price for the shares for Viessmann Climate
Solutions will be roughly 250 million euros as the official climate partner of FC Bayern also had their partnership with the club extended through 2029 earlier this year. The company’s values and prioritization of sustainability and energy efficiency matches Bayern’s continued efforts to act as pioneers for cutting edge solutions both on and off the pitch and he 5% shares sale will hopefully benefit all parties.
Again, though, the two initial reports from Tz and Bild, have been disputed by Abendzeitung, which has put a lot of doubt over the whole situation. When he was asked about the potential sale, board member for sport Max Eberl did not want to speak on the matter and recommended questions be directed towards club president Herbert Hainer, who’s far more involved with the details of the sale.
“I’m not involved in that. It’s a matter for the AG. But what I know from FC Bayern is that the club is always thinking about how to stay stable in this crazy footballing world. I’m sure that president Herbert Hainer and his colleagues are pursuing this. I’m not the right person to talk about that,” Eberl explained.
For now, Eberl is fully focused on transfer matters along with sporting director Christoph Freund. With big contract extensions for both Harry Kane and Michael Olise on the horizon, they’ve been tasked with trying to offload Bayern’s out-of-favor players in efforts to help reduce the overall wage bill at the club — something that’s been ongoing ever since Eberl stepped into his role as board member for sport.
