The New York Giants have released running back Najee Harris, a team source confirmed on Tuesday morning.
After gaining just 2 yards on four carries Sunday against the New Orleans Saints, Harris had complained about not being able to get into a rhythm as the Giants were rotating four running backs during the game.
Head coach John Harbaugh said he understood Harris’s complaint, but his message to all of the backs was to“do something” to “take the job”as the team’s No. 1 running back.
Harris won’t be given
another opportunity.
The 28-year-old Harris had 1,000-yard rushing seasons in each of the first four years of his career, all with the Pittsburgh Steelers. He tore an Achilles tendon early in the 2025 season with the Los Angeles Chargers, and signed with the Giants as a free agent during the preseason.
Harris had just 99 yards on 31 carries for New York, an average of just 3.2 yards per attempt.
The Giants now have Cam Skattebo, Tyrone Tracy, and Devin Singletary at running back.
The Giants also released veteran outside linebacker Jihad Ward on Tuesday.
Moves to replace those players on the 53-man roster have not yet been announced.
