Happy Friday, TOC Nation. We are on to week 3 and MSU finally gets a daytime game. Coming off the double-overtime thriller over Boston College last weekend, the Spartans are hoping for a little less drama in this one as the Youngstown State Penguins of the FCS’ Missouri Valley Conference come to East Lansing. Here is the 411.

Predictions:
Mike: After opening the offensive playbook and so much excitement in a win over Boston College, MSU will look to keep it rather plain against FCS Youngstown State. Chiles won’t have to throw much and Michigan State is effective again running the ball and stopping the run. It will be interesting to see if the Spartans can get backup QB Alessio Milivojevic into the game and, if they do, how much will they let him throw it? With his only two throws in his young MSU career going for interceptions, Milivojevic could probably benefit from a more positive game experience. Let’s say 38-6 Spartans with Alessio leading a second half TD drive.
Steve: 31-17 MSU. MSU defense will get burned a couple of times increasing our doubts for upcoming opponents. Frazier gets 100 on the ground.
Lucas: Following an emotionally charged overtime victory, an afternoon home matchup versus Youngstown State out of the Missouri Valley Conference is just what the doctor ordered for MSU. The Spartans ideally will be able to use this opportunity to get the reserves and young guns some action, while keeping the starters healthy before a long road trip out west to USC. I am hoping to see a dominant performance from both offensive and defensive lines, some reps for Alessio to build his confidence, and maybe the return of Nikai Martinez to the defensive backfield. Keep an eye out for Penguin starting QB Beau Brungard, a true dual-threat weapon who set the MVC rushing yards record for any quarterback a week ago with 264. If the MSU defense can limit Brungard’s legs and make the YSU offense one-dimensional, a 3-0 start to the 2025 season should be well within reach. 35-10 for the good guys.
O: This game has all the markings of a classic trap game. Big win last week, big game next week, low level opponent this week. I think MSU gets caught looking ahead and doesn’t show up to this one with the intensity we want and expect. Ryan Eckley even punts one into the end zone. So we only win by three touchdowns. 28-7.
Game Thread: Will go live 3 hours before kickoff.
College football brings us 3 top 25 games this weekend so we won’t have to resort to picking NFL games. Thank you to Oklahoma for their win last week as all of us writers had predicted.
