Dear Roker Report,
I couldn’t believe that our game was on third last — incredible bias on behalf of the BBC.
No problem with the first two games concerning the final relegation place, but our game was the only one where both teams could have got into Europe.
I’m staggered by the bias shown by the supposed neutral national broadcaster, but it hasn’t spoiled my enjoyment of our achievement, increased only by Alan Shearer having to acknowledge it.
‘Til the end.
Jim Wales
Ed’s Note [Phil]: Hi, Jim. Thank you for your letter.
Seeing
Alan Shearer’s visibly reluctant, through-gritted-teeth praise for Sunderland’s achievement was particularly amusing when you consider that it’s been two decades since we were relegated from the top flight, with Shearer scoring a penalty at the Stadium of Light and Newcastle eventually winning a place in Europe.
To say the least, the tables have turned this season and I think we should make the most of it.
Let the media continue to overlook it if they choose — we know how big an accomplishment this is, as well as how hard everyone has worked for it. That’s more than satisfactory, in my opinion.
Dear Roker Report,
Had to calm my four-year-old grandson down with a very apt colouring book.
Any chance of putting it on the website? He would love it!

Dear Roker Report,
A Mag sent an electronic message of his dream last-day-of-the-season scenario. Naturally, he wanted Sunderland to draw, Newcastle to win and reign as the top North East team for a ninth year in succession.
Well, you uneducated wet wipe from Sid James’ Park, we’ve been missing for eight years and now we’re back.
Before the derby at Sid James’ Park you lot said Newcastle played in Europe, something Sunderland could only dream of. Dream on, buddy. We’re there!
Well done to Granit Xhaka and his teammates for such a thrilling season. Hope you boys can keep up the good work next season and beat them next door in black and white.
Roll on Europe. The marvellous Mackems are about to show you how we play football in God’s own country — Sunderland!

Ed’s Note [Phil]: Hi, Harry. Thank you for your letter.
Can Newcastle fans really have any legitimate gripes about how their season and Sunderland’s season panned out? They were routinely weak at closing games out; we were brilliant at salvaging points from losing positions. They didn’t really turn up in the derbies; we did — save for twenty iffy minutes in the away game — and were rewarded.
After all the jibes we’ve had to deal with from our black and white neighbours in recent times, this is something to relish as we look to the future. They’ve had their own memorable moments — this is our time.
Dear Roker Report,
Wow, wow, wow.
Total respect to all concerned — you’ve all made this season extra special for all Mackems.
We’ve had poor results and we’ve had good results, but the mantra “Til The End” epitomises what we are: hard-working, never-say-die, not the best but full of heart and driving each other until the end.
I have been and always will be Sunderland ‘til I die.
Well done to everyone. Very loud and certainly proud to wear the red and white.
It’s in your blood.
Rob Brown
Ed’s Note [Phil]: Hi, Rob. Thank you for getting in touch.
Once again, our new club motto pulled us through and Sunday was a fitting end to a season during which we’ve never given up the fight and been extremely hard to beat more often than not. That’s not an accident — it’s the result of talented players working very hard for the club and for each other.
If we can build on that home form and gradually improve our form away from the Stadium of Light, another push for the top ten next season is more than achievable, and I’m sure the players will be eager to build on the success of 2025/2026 as well.
