Arijon Ibrahimović entered the new season with an important opportunity at Bayern Munich after the club decided to keep him around as the backup option to Luis Díaz. However, there is now a possibility that the young attacker could leave the club if the right opportunity presents itself.
During Bayern Munich press conference ahead of its Bundesliga opener, board member for sport Max Eberl was asked directly about the rumors surrounding Ibrahimović and whether the club could confirm that he might depart.
Eberl explained that Bayern Munich have been impressed with Ibrahimović, particularly after his strong season at Heidenheim and his performances during preseason. However, the club also recognizes that regular playing time could be difficult to secure with the current attacking options available to Vincent Kompany.
“Ari played a very good season in Heidenheim. We liked what we saw and how he developed. He got plenty of game time in pre-season with us — but, now we can see that it could be difficult for him. That’s why we said: ‘Okay, if there’s something interesting for both parties, then something might be done.’”
That is a fairly clear indication that Bayern Munich are not actively pushing Ibrahimović out of the door, but they are willing to listen if an attractive opportunity emerges. The 20-year-old has shown potential, but with Luis Díaz, Michael Olise, Serge Gnabry, Lennart Karl, and other attacking options ahead of him, consistent minutes could be difficult to find.
A move could therefore make sense if it provides Ibrahimović with the regular first-team football he needs to continue developing while also giving Bayern Munich a situation that works for all sides.
