The Kentucky Wildcats captured their second win of the season on Friday night by a final score of 107-59 over Valparaiso.
The Cats were led by freshman Malachi Moreno, who recorded the first double-double of his college career, and it only took him two games to do so.
Moreno, who came off the bench for the Wildcats on Friday evening, has been a pleasant surprise to the team so far this season. The Georgetown (KY) native finished with 18 points, 10 rebounds, and three assists. The freshman led the game
in scoring and in rebounds.
This was a career night for Moreno, who will find himself in the game more often as the season grows longer.
Jaland Lowe, who came off the bench on Friday night, recorded his first minutes of the season against Valpo. The Pitt transfer got banged up in the Wildcats’ Blue-White game in the preseason and was held out on Tuesday against Nicholls due to a shoulder injury.
Lowe finished the night after recording 18 minutes, six points, five assists (no turnovers), and two rebounds. The junior guard looked smooth in his official Wildcats debut, even though he only hit 2/7 shots from the field.
The Wildcats start their 2025-26 season 2-0 and will have their first quad one opportunity on Tuesday evening. The Battle of the Bluegrass will condemn its earliest in-season matchup on November 11th as Mark Pope and the Cats head to the KFC YUM! Center. The matchup will air on ESPN at 8 PM ET.
