Rashod Bateman was among Texans’ trade targets

The Texans have made exploratory trade calls, per league sources. Among the potential targets: New England Patriots wide receiver Kayshon Boutte
and Baltimore Ravens wide receiver Rashod Bateman. The Texans aren’t expected to have a reunion with former All-Pro receiver DeAndre Hopkins, who’s now the assistant receivers coach at Georgia Tech. The Texans, ideally, want a bigger receiver should they bring in outside reinforcements, per a league source.
News of Bateman’s June arrest for an alleged family violence incident in Georgia overshadowed this report from Texans reporter (and former Baltimore Sun writer) Aaron Wilson. The 26-year-old wideout was on Houston’s list of potential trade targets after 2025 second-round pick Jayden Higgins suffered a torn ACL last week.
The potential for Bateman to be suspended for violating the NFL’s personal conduct policy may have been a non-starter for the Texans, but the Ravens may not be interested in moving the 2021 first-round pick, either. Bateman is coming off career-low numbers virtually across the board, but he has seemed revitalized in a more diverse role in Declan Doyle’s new offense, including plenty of time in the slot. He also remains on an affordable contract for a WR2. But if rookie receivers Ja’Kobi Lane and Elijah Sarratt both prove themselves this year, Bateman could be a trade piece next offseason.

Year 4 saw Hamilton top the 100-tackle mark for the second straight season. The two-time first-team All-Pro selection boasts great range when playing deep safety and flexes his versatility even more when matching up with receivers in the slot.
PFF offers biggest reasons for optimism, concern about Ravens

Doyle learned under Sean Payton and Ben Johnson, so expect the Ravens to lean more on three-receiver sets and use plenty of motion. It’s also worth noting that while Jackson had a down year, he earned a 91.4 PFF overall grade over his final four games of the season. That came just one year after he earned a 94.0 PFF overall grade and posted a 41-to-4 touchdown-to-interception ratio.
Jesse Minter replacing John Harbaugh doesn’t just give the Ravens a fresh perspective at the top; it should also boost a defense that has struggled in recent years — Minter ran a Chargers defense that ranked inside the NFL’s top 10 in expected points added (EPA) allowed on defense in each of the past two seasons. Hendrickson should also provide a significant boost to the pass rush. He has earned a PFF pass-rush grade above 90.0 in each of the past three seasons, something no Ravens edge defender has accomplished since Elvis Dumervil in 2013.

The interior of the offensive line is still a question mark. On one hand, Vega Ioane and John Simpson should be upgrades over Daniel Faalele and Andrew Vorhees, but Ioane’s lack of NFL experience means the Ravens may have to accept some growing pains. They also lost center Tyler Linderbaum to the Raiders in free agency. While the addition of Pocic helps, he is still a step down from a player who ranked fifth among all centers in PFF overall grade last season.
