The New Orleans Saints did not play a game in Week 8, and maybe that was best for everyone involved. It was also great for the Saints’ draft position, because after their bye week, New Orleans is set to select at pick 8
Here are a couple of prospects the Saints could look at as an option in the first round.
WR Charlie Becker
Yes, the Saints just selected Jordyn Tyson in the first round, and although he hasn’t played yet, he should be the clear WR2 on this team. However, WR could become a need again. I know, that’s crazy
to think about, but Devaughn Vele could get traded before the deadline, and he is turning 29 this year. So, the Saints may need another guy who complements Chris Olave and Tyson, and that’s Charlie Becker.
With Indiana, Becker has single-handedly led the team to wins. He has a habit of completely taking over games, making some of the most clutch catches in college football, can speed past defenders, drop them with his route running, can make any impossible catch, and will take a hit and keep hold of the ball. He is an all-around WR.
For the Saints, selecting another WR is greedy, even if they trade for Vele, but they have the cap space to fill most of the roster in free agency, and Becker could be incredible for this team.
CB Kelley Jones
On to the defensive side of the ball, the Saints must address this position in the offseason. Kool-Aid McKinstry has not shown the ability to be a consistent CB1 yet and the depth pieces around him are also not good enough right now to fill in at CB2. If the Saints can’t upgrade the pass rush enough, they need to focus on the CBs.
Kelley Jones is a CB that a new defensive regime could fall in love with. At this moment, Kellen Moore has done nothing to make me feel like he’s staying past this year, so if that does happen, the defensive could go back to a man heavy scheme. That is where Jones shines, and his length is something front offices could fall in love with.
