
Former Texas Longhorns men’s tennis standout Eliot Spizzirri won his first round match in the 2025 US Open over the weekend.

“Spizzirri, a two-time ITA collegiate player of the year for the Longhorns in 2023 and 2024, beat Stefan Dostanic in straight
sets 7-5, 6-4, 7-6 (7-4), moving to the second round at the USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center on Wednesday. Spizzirri had eight fewer winners than Dostanic at 39-31, but kept the unforced errors to a relative minimum, committing 27 for Dostanic’s 36. Spizzirri won 129 total points to Dostanic’s 113. Spizzirri held a big advantage in serve receive points won, converting 51 of 123 tries. Dostanic was 41-for-119.”
Spizzirri must now face No. 32 seed Luciano Darderi of Italy in the US Open’s second round.
Spizzirri has yet to win a second round match so far this season.
Spizzirri is currently the No. 127 overall player in the world, according to the ATP world rankings.
