We have game two in each of the Wild Card Series.
1:00 Eastern Game Two Tigers (Casey Mize 14-6, 3.87) @ Guardians (Tanner Bibee 12-11, 4.24).
The Tigers won game one, 2-1. Terrific pitching from both teams.
Tarik Skubal went 7.2 innings allowing just 3 hits, 1 run, 3 walks and 14 strikeouts for the Tigers, getting the win. Gavin Williams went 6 innings, allowing 5 hits, 2 runs (neither earned), 1 walk with 8 strikeouts.
Johnathan Rodriguez booted a single in the first, allowing Kerry Carpenter to go to second and he scored on a Spencer Torkelson single. In the seventh, Guardians first baseman managed to straddle first base while catching a throw from second. It was the strangest-looking play. It made me appreciate Vlad’s defense.
3:00 Eastern Padres @ Cubs. Dylan Cease (8-12, 4.55) vs. Andrew Kittredge (4-3, 3.40).
The Cubs won game one 3-1. Matthew Boyd gave up a run in 4.1, but the Cubs bullpen went 4.2 perfect innings. Seiya Suzuki and Carson Kelly hit a solo homers for the Cubs.
6:00 Eastern Red Sox @ Yankees. Brayan Bello (11-9, 3.35) vs. Carlos Rodon (18-9, 3.09).
The Red Sox won game one. Another great pitching matchup. Garrett Crochet went 7.2, allowing 4 hits, 1 run, 0 walks and 11 strikeouts. Max Fried went 6.1, allowing just 4 hits, 3 walks, no runs with 6 strikeouts. Seiya Suzuki
But Luke Weaver gave up 2 runs without getting an out in the seventh. David Bednar gave up another run in the ninth.
9:00 Eastern Reds @ Dodgers. After playing the late game yesterday, they play afternoon ball today. Dylan Cease (8-12, 4.55) vs. Andrew Kittredge (4-3, 3.40).
The Dodgers won game one 10-5. They got five against starter Hunter Green and five more against the Reds bullpen. Ohtani and Teoscar Hernandew each hit two home runs. And Tommy Edman had one. The Dodgers’ bullpen tried to let the Reds back into it.
