Throughout the course of last night’s game, the NESN broadcast intently followed the Blue Jays-Rangers game, telling us that if the Rangers won that game, combined with a Red Sox win, Boston’s magic number would drop from 3 to 1.
I woke up this morning and came across this tweet.
Magic Number of 2. Got it. So, not only was the Magic Number talk a bunch of nonsense last night, but now we’re rooting for Toronto to beat Texas tonight, instead of Texas to beat Toronto last night. I should’ve listened to Stone Cold Steve Austin three decades ago: Don’t Trust Anybody.
The Red Sox play at 4:10 today, so if they win, they will have to wait until around 10:00 to celebrate. If the Braves win against the Astros, it seems like they are in regardless of the result in Texas.
If this doesn’t all align today, they may clinch after a 1:40 game in Tampa tomorrow, with the Astros, Blue Jays, and Rangers all playing within an hour. The Patriots also play at 1:00, so you’ll need to set up a second TV. God forbid we see them clinch on the Monday off-day with Toronto playing in Baltimore that night.
When do you want to see them clinch a playoff spot? I say let’s get this done tonight. Discuss in the comments and be good to each other.
