Bayern Munich striker Harry Kane put in what Vincent Kompany termed a “complete performance” against Borussia Dortmund on Saturday en route to a 2-1 win for the Bavarians. The England captain went so far
as to describe it as one of his best-ever efforts.
So what made this one so special?
“Mainly because of how I adapted to the game in different ways,” Kane described afterwards in postgame comments captured by @iMiaSanMia. “I enjoyed that role. It was a physically demanding game because I played almost box-to-box in midfield. But because of my physical attributes, it suits me well.
“Of course, I’m still there to score goals, but this time I dropped a bit deeper, both with and without the ball. It was also about defending, winning second balls, and using my long passing game. In the end, it was another good win, and I’m happy with the three points.”
Kane was phenomenal against Dortmund — from his passing range (11 long pass completions, including the pre-assist for Olise’s crucial goal) to his defending all over the pitch from his first moment to the last. This kind of performance, on the biggest stage the Bundesliga has to offer, is something to savor.
Bayern Munich got off to a rousing start during its 2-1 win over Borussia Dortmund in the latest edition of Der Klassiker, but it was a nervy ending for the Bavarians.
The home side appeared to wear down and wilt under pressure from Borussia Dortmund as the game went on, but it was a gutty effort to even preserve the win under what many would consider to be a shaky second half. Head coach Vincent Kompany will have to find a way to deal with the weariness of his boys, but for now, let’s talk about how it all played out.
