A couple of weeks ago, Liverpool made the first exciting signing of the summer when they captured the signature of Victor Munoz for £34.5 million. But there’s a lot of work left to do to fill out the squad for incoming boss Andoni Iraola.
Yesterday it was reported that Liverpool want four high-quality wide attacking options. Considering where things now stand–Munoz, Rio Ngumoha, and Cody Gakpo–Liverpool have, at most, one and a half high-quality wide attacking options (Munoz and Ngumoha).
Well, according
to the rumor mongers, Liverpool have been given the green light to spend an additional £260 million to bolster the squad; in particular £100 million for Yan Diomande, £100 for Bradley Pepsi Barcola, and £60 for Adam Wharton.
Now, there’s a reason to be skeptical about these claims. For one, it’s likely that these players will cost more than the touted combined £260 million. Secondly, according to other recent rumors, it’s likely that Liverpool would need to sell (looking at you Cody Gakpo) in order to buy both Diomande and Barcola.
If there is truth to these rumors, Munoz, Diomande, Barcola, and Ngumoha would get us closer to four high quality wide attacking options.
No matter what, Liverpool have a lot of work to get the squad ready to go again in August. Let’s hope the club can get these signings over the line relatively quickly, so the new gaffer can have plenty of time to work with them.
