Is it possible for there to be as big a let down between home games?
Carolina’s first home game of the season was in prime time, on a national holiday, and drew more people to the pregame festivities than ever before. A nationally known country artist performed a pregame concert. As the stadium filled for kickoff there was an energy there that hadn’t been in Kenan in nearly 30 years. Even as the Carolina was down at halftime, fans still held hope as the band completed a halftime show in the dark and made
use of the light up bracelets.
Then the second half happened, the stadium emptied out, and it was Carolina football all over again.
Despite winning in Charlotte last week this weekend’s game was already going to be a let down because of the opponent. The game is a sell out—Carolina has famously said every game is already sold out—but this will be a much easier game to get into with secondary market prices going at under face value. Last week’s sleepy win over the 49ers has put the fear into fans that it may in fact be another longer season, and it’s tough to continue with the investment that going to a football game will cost.
Still, for a mid-September game against an FCS school, there should be a pretty good crowd inside Kenan. The weather looks like it’ll be amazing, and hopefully with a full week to prepare the team will look cleaner than last.
This week also marks a return to a more traditional way to watch the Tar Heels, unlike last weekend’s ESPN+ streaming only broadcast. That should at least be a little easier for everyone to watch.
If you’re going to the game, note that the Old Well Walk returns and starts at 12:30 PM. John Stone will hold down the stage in front of Wilson Library before the Marching Tar Heels let you know it’s time to head to the stadium.
