What is the story about?
Per Fabrizio Romano, Real Madrid have triggered the €20m release clause of Inter Milan’s 30-year-old right-back/right wing-back Denzel Dumfries.
Liverpool FC had been linked with the Dutchman in the January
window and was again rumoured this summer window before Arne Slot’s departure. Romano is reporting that Liverpool were still interested, but the player simply chose Real Madrid.
Well, the rumour wasn’t a popular one to begin with, so Reds fans will likely feel that it’s a bullet dodged and hope that any right-back we bring in will be a younger one who can be a mainstay in the team for years to come. The bonus of Real Madrid doing this is the potential benching of Trent Alexander-Arnold after just one year in the Spanish capital.
