Newcastle United’s recruitment work has continued beyond the summer transfer deadline, with the club already being linked with potential additions ahead of the January window.
Barcelona defender Eric Garcia is among the players now attracting Newcastle’s attention. According to Sportowy.Net’s Ekrem Konur, the Magpies have been linked with the 25-year-old, with representatives or intermediaries already handling information regarding the possibility of a future transfer to the Tyneside club.
“Interest
in the Spanish international is particularly strong in England. Eric Garcia is already familiar with the Premier League from his time at Manchester City, which is why his name is on the lists of potential signings for Tottenham Hotspur and Aston Villa,” Konur reported. “Newcastle United have also been linked with the player, with representatives or intermediaries reportedly passing on information regarding the possibility of a transfer.”
That stops short of suggesting Newcastle has submitted an offer or opened formal negotiations with Barcelona, but Garcia is reportedly attracting considerable interest across Europe.
Tottenham Hotspur and Aston Villa are also monitoring the Spain international, while Inter Milan has examined the financial requirements of a potential deal. Roma, Fiorentina, Como and Paris Saint-Germain have also been credited with interest.
Barcelona, however, is in a strong negotiating position. Garcia is under contract through June 2031, and Konur reported that the Spanish club currently favors keeping him. An offer in the region of €50-55 million (£43-48 million) could potentially change that position, with Barcelona also potentially seeking bonuses and a future sell-on percentage.
Although primarily a centre-back, the former Manchester City defender can operate at right back or in midfield. Garcia has already featured on the right side during the opening weeks of the 2026-27 campaign, playing 90 minutes against Elche and 80 against Athletic Club. His previous spell at Manchester City also means Newcastle would be targeting a player already familiar with English football.
