James Maddison will not feature for Tottenham Hotspur for tomorrow’s League Cup match at home against Charlton Athletic, nor this weekend’s Premier League match against Newcastle after sustaining a slight shoulder fracture in Spurs’ 3-0 loss at Brentford this past Saturday. According to David Orstein of the Athletic, the injury is not thought to be severe and the attacking midfielder will likely miss 10 days to 2 weeks of action.
Ornstein says that an MRI after the incident indicated a “small fracture” but that the injury is not thought to be serious.
Now, if you are terminally online (I am also terminally online) and are clued into the Tottenham ITK scene, you might have heard something different here — a significant injury, perhaps, with Maddison set to be sidelined for a significant amount of time. I’m pleased to say that ACTUAL reporting suggests that this is not the case, and Madders won’t miss more than a couple of matches. This is also your periodic caution to not believe everything you read from ITK online.
It is, however, still a bummer. Madders was only just starting to get back to fitness after missing a year with an ACL injury, and now he injures his shoulder. You might look at this and come to the conclusion that the injury curse that has plagued Tottenham for the past two years is continuing unabated and we need to, IDK, sacrifice some chickens at center circle of the Lane or something. Or, you might just consider that we are but motes of dust on a tiny pale blue dot hurtling pell-mell through the cosmos and sometimes this shit just happens, you know?
Anyway, it’s only two weeks or so, and while that raises the specter of two weeks of Conor Gallagher as the most uncreative 10 in the known universe, this too shall pass. All shall be well, and all manner of things shall be well.
