Liverpool are in the market to sign an attacker this summer, with the Reds having brought in winger Victor Muñoz from Osasuna already but clearly in need of more given last season’s squad shortcomings and the departure of legend Mohamed Salah at the end of the 2025-26 season.
With that in mind, today 24-year-old Monaco right winger and attacking midfielder Maghnes Akliouche found himself added to the list of potential targets, with Sky’s Lyall Thomas first claiming that Liverpool had made an approach
for the French international and World Cup bench option.
However, while that news was quickly confirmed by club-connected reporters, it appears likely that this transfer saga might not get past the enquiry stage. At least according to The Echo’s Ian Doyle, Liverpool kicked the tires back before the World Cup kicked off—and haven’t yet returned.
Whether that means the Reds were quoted a price they didn’t consider reasonable or if Akliouche is simply one of many potential targets and not actually near the top of the list, then, today’s news feels like old news coming to light more than a revelation of a deal currently in the works.
Liverpool’s top wing target to replace Salah had been Yan Diomande before the RB Leipzig winger signalled that his preferred destination was Paris Saint-Germain, and since then most of the focus has been on PSG’s Bradley Barcola but with little real new news on that front in some time.
