PWInsider on Tuesday (Oct. 27) reported “multiple sources” said Bruce Prichard is expected to step down from his role in WWE next year.
Other reports followed that added more to the story. Fightful has heard the plan will be for Prichard to work from home following an upcoming neck surgery.
Prichard has had multiple tenures with WWE over the years, and he was first considered a righthand man to then-WWE boss Vince McMahon back in the 1990s. After leaving the company in 2008, he launched the successful
Something to Wrestle podcast in 2016 before returning to WWE creative in 2019.
Bruce, who is also known to wrestling fans of a certain age for his Brother Love persona, currently acts as Executive Director of Creative Writing and Talent, where he helps run the day-to-day operations for WWE.
PWInsider said that it is believed Prichard currently heads all three of WWE’s writing teams, and there are no names being floated publicly for a replacement.
According to the PWInsider’s report, Prichard will be retiring from his current role following WrestleMania 43 next year in Saudi Arabia. The report noted the timeline could change, and Prichard is expected to continue on in some capacity in a consulting role.
False Finish added:
“This will happen quite a bit over the next few years as the company gears up for a new direction with some currently contracted talent expected to take over spots within the office.”
Fightful’s report added credence to the idea that Prichard will still be available as a resource to whoever is replaces him: “Prichard’s plan is to work from home following a very serious surgery that he needs… PWInsider had reported that he plans to retire, but as things stand, it looks like he could remain with the company, in a more remote position when the time comes.”
