The Commanders did not enjoy their 2025 experience. A 5-12 record, on the heels of an NFC title game appearance, will create such sentiment.
The page has been turned toward a 2026 campaign full of optimism after hiring new offensive and defensive coordinators and adding tons of talent via free agency and the draft. That said, the Commanders have been asked at the start of this training camp how they compartmentalized last season and let it impact this go-round.
Head coach Dan Quinn has promised an ultra-competitive
camp. He has demanded players start camp in tip-top shape. The players are willing to try new things to get right after last year’s disappointment.
“(We’re) tried of losing,” defensive back Jeremy Reaves said after Wednesday’s practice, via 7News-DC’s Scott Abraham. “Last year – it sucked. Nobody likes losing games, especially when you had the year we had the year before. It’s frustrating.”
The Commanders are confident in a quick turnaround, because of the upgraded talent and schematics now in place.
“It’d be crazy not to say you wouldn’t take that lesson and pull it forward and apply it, but it is about the here, the now,” Quinn said in a Tuesday press conference. “I’m excited for you guys to feel the energy of the team. Their readiness, their swagger. So, as we get started into this, I’m excited for you guys to feel that.”
There are several Commanders from that 12-5 2024 regular season and playoff run who know what it takes to win. They’re hungry for a return to glory.
While quarterback Jayden Daniels has vowed to put 2025 in the past, he said it had an impact on his offseason prep for this training camp.
“It left a bitter taste in my mouth,” Daniels said. “You kind of move forward and go out and get better and get back at it. You can’t really rush the days until the season gets back, but you attack it with a different mindset, a different approach to things.
