Let’s take a look at the roster from arguably the most famous (infamous?) member of the WCG Dynasty Fantasy Football League, that of course would be Jacob Infante.
We know Jacob well from his outstanding NFL Draft coverage and his unique social media presence. Jacob joined the league this year, so his input on this roster thus far has largely been on the rookies. He has a tall order in front of him. He has a roster that certainly needs some help. How he works this roster back into contention should
be interesting over the next couple of seasons.
Let’s take a look at the roster:
Let’s look through this roster and start at QB. Jared Goff is a low-end QB1 in this league, and I guess we can still call Aaron Rodgers a QB2, but having a backup QB north of 40 years of age with no developmental QBs behind him is certainly an issue that Jacob needs to work through.
There isn’t nearly enough depth in the running back room. David Montgomery is a solid RB2, and Bijan Robinson is a stud RB1. The biggest question here is: will Jacob trade off Robinson to gain a ton of draft assets and young players? He could try to hold on to him, but he is by far the biggest asset on this roster.
The wide receiver room is a debacle. Infusing two rookies was desperately needed there, and we all know DJ Moore is going to be a solid contributor. But most of these other guys won’t put up big numbers and won’t garner many draft assets either if they are traded. It certainly needs work.
Tight end is decent. Travis Kelce doesn’t have much life left in those legs, Freiermuth is a startable player, and perhaps Ferguson and Arroyo can develop into solid fantasy tight ends.
Moving over to the defensive side of the ball, Quinnen Williams is definitely another tradable asset because DTs who can score can be hard to come by in this league. I loved Darius Robinson coming out of Missouri, but he hasn’t been able to produce much at the NFL level. We will see if he can put it together; the same goes for Sanders.
The Edge room is in a tough spot. Pearce looked like he was on his way, but we will see what happens with his off-the-field issues; he could see a huge suspension this year. Mesidor and Jacas infuse some youth into this room that really needs it. Mack isn’t the player he once was, but he can still score you 10 points and just doesn’t put together those massive 30-point games anymore.
At linebacker, Fred Warner is a beast and another tradable asset for Jacob. Wagner was still very productive last year, but obviously, he’s reached an age where that could change at any moment. Singleton and Barton are both decent, but there’s just a big lack of depth here.
There are a lot of depth issues at a lot of position groups, and you can see that it is largely due to the allocation to CBs on the roster. 8 CBs currently on the roster, including drafting two rookies when you had 6 on the roster, is something that I think he needs to change before we head to week one of the season.
Safety is another position that could use some bigger scorers, but there are bigger issues on the roster to focus on before you worry about getting safeties that can score 12-15 points per game.
The roster Jacob inherited just isn’t good enough right now. I think this team needs a massive rebuild and should trade away assets for draft picks. If he plays his cards right, he could package some players and land himself 5 or 6 first-round picks, or at least 3 or 4 firsts and 3 or 4 seconds. I don’t see any other path to future success than stripping this thing down to the studs.
