RB Leipzig defender Castello Lukeba is a hot property
. Some of the biggest clubs in Europe have the French center-back in their sights, according to a new report.Barça manager Hansi Flick is said to be a fan of Lukeba. A left-footed defender, known for his passing ability and pace, seems almost custom-made for Barcelona’s needs.
Barça will have to contend with Arsenal, Chelsea, and Manchester United, who are also said to be interested in the player. However, Lukeba himself reportedly is keen on joining
Barcelona. The interest for the move is strong on both sides, but the biggest hurdle is financial.
Leipzig are asking for 60 to 65 million euro for the defender, which is more than Barça want to pay for a center-back. With Andreas Christensen injured, Barcelona’s need for another center-back has been brought into relief again.
However, Barcelona would be unlikely to make the move in the winter transfer window unless they sell players, which is also unlikely. Lepizig also would rather not sell in the winter.
The Premier League clubs also have a lot of financial muscle and will contend for Lukeba’s signature. That has reportedly made Leipzig confident they can get the money they are asking for.
Despite the interest from Barcelona and Lukeba to get the deal done, there’s a strong expectation that this will be a saga to watch for next summer’s transfer window, not this winter’s window.
