Good morning, New York Giants fans! Here are the stories you need to know about the first place New York Giants.
Ranking the best 2026 NFL rookies: Arvell Reese, Denzel Boston, others in top 10 | ESPN.com
T-1. Arvell Reese, Edge/LB, New York Giants. Stats: 56 tackles, 1.5 sacks, 1 INT. Drafted: No. 5. Just as we saw during his final season at Ohio State, Reese’s physicality and speed have shown up right away at the NFL level. He is comfortable attacking downhill as a run defender, and his consistency in coverage has been excellent. His four pass breakups are tied for the second most among
all linebackers in 2026.
Reese is the ultimate playmaker who can not only be used on the second level but is also equally as effective as a blitzer. He has 10 pass-rush wins and two pass breakups on 93 blitz attempts this season. Reese is a key building block for the Giants’ defense alongside 2025 first-round pick Abdul Carter.

NFL rookie rankings: Highest-graded players after Week 7 | PFF
6. LB Arvell Reese, New York Giants (77.0). Reese continues to be a fantastic all-around player for the Giants in his rookie season. He has earned PFF grades above 72.0 both as a run defender and in coverage, while his 23 defensive stops rank second among all rookies.
NFL Fact Or Fiction: Vikings Destined For A Fall? Giants Legit? | FOX Sports
The Giants Are Dangerous! Fact or Fiction: Fiction. Now, I’m not necessarily buying that J.J. McCarthy can sustain his level of play from last week’s overtime win over the Houston Texans and his fourth-quarter performance against the New Orleans Saints the week prior. But being in a new environment is good for the former Vikings QB, and I do think he can at least manage Giants OC Matt Nagy’s offense. McCarthy just needs to get the ball to the playmakers and let them work. Receiver Malik Nabers has been on fire with four straight 100-yard games. Lead back Cam Skattebo is coming off a career-high 124 rushing yards last week.
My main concern with the Giants is their defense. They don’t do a good job stopping the run (128.1 rushing yards allowed per game, 25th) or rushing the passer (29th in sacks, 20th in pressure rate). The 2-4 Saints scored a season-high 34 points on them. The Giants allowed the 1-4-1 Washington Commanders to put up 27 points, the second-most they’ve had in a game this season.
Deonte Banks is making sure he won’t go down as a Giants draft ‘bust’ | New York Post
Deonte Banks is a symbol inside the Giants locker room. Not a symbol for what you may think.
Banks no longer symbolizes the first-round draft pick bust that he became after such promise his rookie season.
Kurt Warner: J.J. McCarthy still needs time
NFL Week 7 Quick Outs: J.J. McCarthy shows improvement, Steelers’ O-line keeps rolling | The Athletic
Upon charting and rewatching the performance, however, I better appreciated it. It was still imperfect, because McCarthy is an incomplete player and it was his first start for this Giants team, but there were more kernels of improvement than I’d initially thought. Where you really saw the blend of fast play and confidence was in McCarthy’s success under pressure — he was accurate on 8 of 10 throws there. McCarthy’s willingness to hang in and chuck it was admirable in a vacuum, and it was also important to a Giants team that headed into the season expecting now-injured starter Jaxson Dart to give them that kind of bravado.
I still don’t know if any of this means McCarthy is on the way to being good. There are still parts of his game that need work, including his pocket movement, mechanics and touch on throws between the numbers. Playing the way he did against the Texans was a nice step, though.
Giants’Jermaine Eluemunor: John Harbaugh tougher than Brian Daboll | USAToday.com
When asked to compare Harbaugh’s style with that of former coach Brian Daboll, Eluemunor was clear that the current coach is tougher. Training camp ranked as the hardest of Eluemunor’s career, yet the atmosphere stayed positive because the team felt prepared and focused on simply playing football.
“He’s harder. He’s tougher… but you want to play for him more,” Eluemunor said. “But the thing is, you’re having fun doing it because everyone just wants to play ball. It feels like the type of ball you grew up playing where it’s just fun. You’re going out there not worrying about everything because you know you’ve covered every single thing. You’re well prepared. You’re focused. You’re confident”
