New Jersey State Athletic Control Board (NJSACB) handed out 17 medical suspensions in the aftermath of UFC 328 this past weekend (Sat., May 9, 2026) inside Prudential Center in Newark, with champions Sean Strickland, Joshua Van, and Tatsuro Taira among those who will need additional medical clearance before returning to action.
Strickland scored a split decision win over Khamzat Chimaev in the main event of UFC 328 to win the UFC Middleweight title, all while having a gnarly shoulder injury (watch
highlights). Van defended his Flyweight title for the first time in the co-main event in UFC 328 when he knocked out Taira in the fifth round (watch highlights).

Grant Dawson: Indefinite suspension pending clearance from an orthopedist for his right tibia (must get X-ray) — also suspended 30 days with 21 days no contact
Mateusz Rebecki: Indefinite suspension pending clearance from a physician for left lateral orbit laceration —also suspended 30 days with 15 days no contact.
Jim Miller: Indefinite suspension pending clearance from an orthopedist for his left hand (must get X-ray) —also suspended 30 days with 15 days no contact.
Jared Gordon: Suspended 30 days with 15 days no contact.
Roman Kopylov: Suspended 45 days with 30 days no contact.
Marco Tulio: Indefinite suspension pending clearance from an orthopedist for his left foot and ankle — also suspended 45 days with 30 days no contact.
Pat Sabatini: No suspension.
William Gomis: No suspension.
Baysangur Susurkaev: Indefinite suspension pending clearance from an orthopedist for his right hand and right foot (must get X-ray) — also suspended 45 days with 30 days no contact.
Djorden Santos: Suspended 45 days with 30 days no contact.
Jose Ochoa: Suspended 30 days with 21 days no contact.
Clayton Carpenter: Indefinite suspension pending clearance from an orthopedist for his left lower leg (must get X-ray) — also suspended 45 days with 30 days no contact.
Just a quick reminder: Fighters often return to action much quicker once doctors give them the green light. The lengthy suspensions are just a precaution in most cases. In addition, not all injuries are recorded during the post-fight examination and often times surface in follow-up tests.
