It’s been a little under 2 1/2 months since Luciano Spalletti arrived at Juventus during a time in which the club was looking like a rudderless ship under a pair of much more inexperienced managers. While
the first fixture of 2026 proved to be incredibly frustrating for a variety of reasons, the job that Spalletti has done to turn Juve’s fortunes for the better have been on display more and more as his time in Turin has gone on.
And it’s already got the new-look front office thinking beyond the 2025-26 season.
Fabrizio Romano reported on his YouTube channel this weekend that Juventus have opened talks with Spalletti about a contract extension beyond this season. As things stand right now, Spalletti is under contract until the end of the current season with an option to extend things beyond the summer of 2026. That option pretty much vests and becomes official if Juventus are to finish in the top four and qualify for the Champions League next season. But it appears that Juventus — rightfully — want to keep Spalletti on regardless of where things may end up come the springtime and ensure that the managerial carousel that the club has been on for the last couple of years at least stops for a little while now that the 66-year-old Tuscan has stabilized things in the aftermath of Igor Tudor’s October firing.
The video from Romano (and transfer buddy Matteo Moretto), which starts at the part about Juventus and Spalletti, is below.
In case you don’t feel like watching the video, here is a transcript of what was reported:
So, there are a few things to say about Juventus. The first is that I confirm what I’ve been telling you increasingly in recent days regarding Luciano Spalletti’s immediate future. There’s great harmony, great satisfaction, and even great enthusiasm, I’d say, among Juventus, from there on down, all the way up to Luciano Spalletti himself, obviously. He’s very happy with his impact on the Juventus world, as the results prove, but above all, the feedback coming directly from the Bianconeri world also proves.
So I can confirm what I was telling you: Luciano Spalletti’s contract renewal with Juventus is something that’s being discussed very quickly behind the scenes. Then, guys, the timing for signing, closing, and announcing—that’s in Juventus’ hands. We’re also in a month with the transfer market, lots of matches, so we’ll see how the timing develops. But in terms of intentions, I can confirm that Juve wants and has already begun discussions with Luciano Spalletti and those close to him to prepare a contract renewal. So, the intention is there today, and we’ll follow developments later. Today, at the beginning of January, there’s the full intention to continue with Luciano Spalletti for the present and future with a longer contract.

Spalletti was very up front about his contract situation when he first arrived at Juventus. He knew that his status, at least at the beginning, was attached to the ability to get Juventus into Champions League position. As time has gone on — and it’s not like Spalletti has been around for very long mind you! — it’s become pretty easy to see that he is the manager that this team needs at this moment. And that’s a pretty good indication that something will happen between the club and the coach beyond the current season comes to an end.
Some, like Romano, have previously said over the last week or two that Juventus and Spalletti could get something done rather quickly and extend his contract well before the stretch run of the season. Others have suggested it could be a more delayed process so that there isn’t any sort of focus taken away from the race for the top four and the likely Champions League play-off round matchup.
Either way, Juventus and Spalletti making a longer deal happen feels somewhat inevitable at this point. And if he does the same kind of work on this team over the next couple of months that he’s done since October, then Juve qualifying for the top four and next season’s Champions League will just continue to look like a strong possibility, too.
