Barcelona defender Alvaro Cortes is reportedly set to leave the club before the transfer window closes to join Royal Antwerp.
Speculation about Cortes’ future has popped up this week and it seems the youngster really is going to wave goodbye to the Catalans. Reporter Matteo Moretto says that Cortes is now heading for Belgian side Royal Antwerp.
Cortes had looked set to stay at Barcelona but reports claim the club are set to sign another young defender which is why the former Barca Atletic captain has
decided to move.
According to Sport, the 21-year-old has offers from Elche and Deportivo, as well as Serie A and Bundesliga clubs, but has now made up his mind about his next move.
As for Barca, it’s not clear yet who they might bring in instead. Reporter Florian Plettenberg has posted on X that Barca are “pushing to sign” 16-year-old Mikael Baza from Hamburg.
The teenager would begin life at Barca Atletic before potentially being integrated into the first team and is the cousin of Germany star Jonathan Tah.
