During a recent appearance on The Coach and Bro Show podcast, Tony Khan discussed the infamous media scrum after AEW All Out 2022 and its ensuing fallout.
As a recap, CM Punk had just beat Jon Moxley for the AEW World Championship when he was joined by Khan to talk to the media. However, the press conference soon went off the rails when Punk unleashed a tirade against fellow AEW stars Adam Page, Colt Cabana, and The Elite (Kenny Omega and The Young Bucks).
Things only got more heated from there as
a physical altercation reportedly took place backstage between The Elite and Punk, backed by Ace Steel, and the incident was infamously dubbed “Brawl Out.”
According to reports, Omega and at least one of the Bucks were injured during the skirmish, and Khan later suspended all the parties involved.
Speaking to Jonathan Coachman and Vince Russo on their podcast Tuesday (April 7), Khan shared what he had learned from the incident now that he’s a few years removed from the controversy.
“I came out of that wanting for AEW to succeed and for AEW to continue more than anything, and what we were able to do to rebound from that,” the AEW president and CEO said. “Obviously, I wanted in a perfect world everybody to be able to get together and work together. I don’t think that was possible. But I also think that we’ve been able, in the past few years, to really keep AEW strong. To me, that was the most important thing.”
Khan added that he “learned a number of things” and would “probably would do things differently, say things differently.” He also noted that he was still fairly new to the world of wrestling.
“I’d been in wrestling for almost four years at that point, but that was certainly a first for me, and as with all firsts, you’re gonna learn from them and hope not to ever have a repeat,” Khan said.
Do you think AEW has become stronger since Punk’s time in the company? Does it seem like Khan learned from Brawl Out? Let us know in the comments.
