Mexico has announced their second friendly during the November FIFA window as the 2026 World Cup inches closer and closer. La Seleccion Mexicana will face off against Paraguay in the United States at the Alamodome in San Antonio, Texas on November 18, 2025.
Earlier
this month the first friendly in November against Uruguay was announced during a press conference. Said conference took place in Torreón with Ivar Sisniega, the executive president of the FMF, present to announce the match. The friendly will take place on November 15, 2025 in Estadio TSM in Torreón. Three days later Mexico will travel to Texas to face Paraguay as Mexico has an agreement to play in the United States as part of the MexTour.
Both Uruguay and Paraguay have already qualified for the 2026 World Cup after clinching their spots during the September FIFA window. They will join Argentina, Brazil, Ecuador and Colombia as the six countries to represent CONMEBOL with the possibility of seven representing countries after Bolivia secured a spot in the Intercontinental Playoffs.
The last time Mexico faced Uruguay was during the summer of 2024 in a friendly that saw the South American team come out on top, 0-4. This was one of three friendlies before the disastrous Copa América performance where Mexico was grouped, only having won one game in the group stage. At the time, Mexico was coached by Jamie Lozano but Javier Aguirre is in charge now as he was named Lozano’s replacement after the disappointment of the summer tournament. During the match against Uruguay Mexico had a difficult time as they had no answers against a stacked Uruguayan team. A team that has Federico Valverde, Darwin Nuñez, Edinson Cavani and Ronald Araujo, just to name a few, who play in some of the top leagues in the world. This time around, Mexico will have a different coach but the results may be the same.
The last time Mexico faced Paraguay was three years ago in August 2022 in a friendly match. The South American team defeated Mexico 1-0 during the MexTour when Gerardo Martino was in charge. Mexico dominated that game but it was Paraguay who took the opportunity when they had it. They struck at the beginning of the second half which left La Seleccion chasing the score for the remainder of the game. This time around with Aguirre in charge they should be able to take care of this match. This match and the Uruguay one will be about experimenting with the lineup and gameplan that Aguirre will use moving forward. From there it will be about tinkering the fine details before the World Cup on home soil.
