UFC 322 is ready to roll with two massive title bouts one step closer to fight night.
Welterweight champion Jack Della Maddalena and flyweight champion Valentina Shevchenko both successfully hit the mark
at Friday’s official weigh-ins for UFC 322, which takes place Saturday at Madison Square Garden in New York. Della Maddalena defends his title against Islam Makhachev, who recently vacated the lightweight belt to challenge “JDM,” while Shevchenko defends against Zhang, who vacated the strawweight belt to set up this matchup.
Della Maddalena weighed in at 169.8 pounds, with Makhachev coming in at 170. Shevchenko and Zhang both tipped the scales at 124.6.
There was one notable miss Friday, as lightweight veteran Beneil Dariush weighed in at 157.2 pounds, 1.2 pounds over the limit (including a one-pound allowance for non-title fights). It is the second time in Dariush’s 25-fight UFC career that he has missed weight. He also came in heavy for an August 2020 bout against Scott Holtzman, which Dariush went on to win by first-round knockout.
Dariush’s bout with Benoit Saint Denis proceeds at a catchweight with Dariush forfeiting 20 percent of his purse as penalty.
