The plot thickens for Bayern Munich and Dayot Upamecano.
According to a report from Sport Bild journalists Christian Falk and Tobi Altschäffl (as captured by @iMiaSanMia), Upamecano will not sign a contract extension in Bavaria that does not include a release clause.
Moreover, there were additional details reported on the rumors of a two-year, 65 million release clause that Upamecano allegedly wants. Bayern Munich wants the release clause to be valid in 2028 at the earliest, while Upamecano’s entourage
— allegedly — wants it to be available earlier:
There’s an agreement in principle regarding the base salary, bonuses and signing fee between Bayern and Dayot Upamecano. The remaining sticking point is the release clause. Bayern are aware that Upamecano will only extend with a release clause. The club wants it to be valid from the second year of the new contract (from 2028), while the player’s camp wants the clause to be valid earlier. An extension remains the most likely outcome.
For the fans who were worried that Bayern Munich’s venture into the world of release clauses could create some unwanted scenarios in the future, it might be time for you to take a victory lap.
There is still no reason to panic — after all, we know that a lot of this could still just be posturing in an effort to milk more money out of the Bavarians. However, we are creeping closer to January and clubs like Real Madrid and Paris Saint-Germain might be more willing to meet those demands than Bayern Munich.
