Pumas and Tigres got late goals in a 1-1 tie in a very even match. Pumas had been the slightly better team but it was a fair results as Tigres had held its own and had their chances. Pumas continue their streak
of not losing Liga MX matches after their bad start to the Apertura, where they lost the first two games. Pumas will have to travel for their mid week clash on Tuesday against FC Juarez while Tigres returns home to face off against Atlas.

The 1st half started with Pumas coming out with close to their best starting 11 while Tigres had Javier Aquino missing because of an injury. A right footed shot from Diego Lainez was easily saved by Pumas’ goalkeeper, Keylor Navas. Off a corner, a cross into the area was deflected by Ruben Duarte and then handled by Juan Jose Sanchez Purata and went wide. The ref failed to see it but after going to VAR, he changed his decision and gave Pumas a Penalty Kick. Aaron Ramsey stepped up to take the PK but his right footed shot went wide in a bad miss. From outside the area, Jorge Ruvalcaba got off a right footed shot that was easily saved by Tigres’ goalkeeper, Nahuel Guzman. After winning a ball, Ramsey got off a shot from the halfway line that would go over Guzman but it would also go wide. Off a free kick, a cross into the area was volleyed wide by Romulo Zwarg in the area. A right footed shot from Angel Correa from outside the area forced Navas to make a save. The halftime whistle blew and although the match had been very even, Pumas had been slightly better although Tigres had more chances.

Tigres subbed out Bernardo Parra for Juan Pablo Vigon. A great run from Carrasquilla ended with a pass into the area where, Jose Juan Macias got the ball and then got off a left footed shot past Guzman and into the net to score and give Pumas the 1-0 lead. It was a great goal for Macias, who after years would finally score a goal from open play. Off a free kick, the cross into the area went wide but Zwarg looked to have tripped in the area. After going to VAR, it was clear that Jose Caicedo had pulled his shirt and a PK was given to Tigres. It was an incredible play from Caicedo, who had made the foul that lead to the free kick and then the PK. Ibañez took the PK and his right footed shot was blocked by Navas but it went right to the path of Angel Correa, who got off a left footed shot past Navas to score and tie the match at 1-1. There were no more opportunities for either side and the game ended as a tie.

Pumas and Tigres battled to a tie in a match that was very even and with few opportunities for either side. Pumas was the better side but they weren’t overly superior. Still they had the better chances and might have feel they gave away the victory after a late goal from Tigres especially since it came from two fouls from Caicedo, who continues to be a disappointment in the 2025 Apertura. Yet Tigres has the better squad and they have been a team that Pumas have had a lot of trouble with, so the tie isn’t a terrible result. Pumas will have to pick things up for their away match on Tuesday against FC Juarez, a team that has done better than expected so far in the season. Meanwhile Tigres will return home where they will be heavy favorites in a match that also marks the return of Atlas coach Diego Cocca, after he left Tigres to coach the Mexican National team in a situation which Tigres and their fans didn’t like at all.
